World Book Day | Highcliffe School

World Book Day

On Wednesday 1st March, we were delighted to welcome authors Jason Rohan & Lil Chase to Highcliffe to celebrate World Book Day.

We were very pleased to see Jason again. He visited us for World Book Day last year, and did a wonderful presentation for a selection of our students. We were very impressed with his work and his interest in the school, so we invited him to return this year.

His ‘Kuromori’ series has been hugely popular with our students and since last year a new book ‘The Stone of Kuromori’ has been published.

Jason was asked to run workshops with a group of our year 8 students on the subject of plot structures.

Lil Chase was visiting Highcliffe for the first time. Her books include ‘The Boys’ School Girls’ series and ‘Secrets, Lies & Locker 62’. Lil’s mission during her visit was to run workshops on character creation.

All of those involved had an interesting and lively time; the students were engaged, participated fully and were well behaved.

One student, Scott said ‘I enjoyed meeting Jason & Lil, because it will help me in my English lessons when we do narrative writing. It was also great talking to two different, but really good, authors. It was amazing!’

Another student to participate was Bethany who said, ‘I enjoyed meeting the authors because I am now able to expand my English skills, it made me feel that I would like to be an author and write books.’

Jason & Lil have both contacted us since their visit to say how much they enjoyed the time they spent here and how impressed they were with the students. World Book Day this year will definitely be remembered as a positive and rewarding time for the students, staff and authors.
