Japanese Exchange 2017 | Highcliffe School

Japanese Exchange 2017

Last week, Highcliffe School welcomed 14 students and two members of staff from our Japanese partner school, Johoku High School for Boys in Hiroshima.

The boys were warmly greeted by families of Highcliffe students who kindly looked after them for the duration of their stay.

Whilst in school, the students participated in a range of activities. They joined in with volleyball with Y10 students and taught a traditional Japanese fishermen’s dance to a group of Y9 girls. They also demonstrated calligraphy and origami to a group of y9 graphics and art students.

For much of the rest of the time, the Johoku students were able accompanied by their buddies who took them to lessons.

In short, the Johoku boys became a part of our school, impressing students and staff with their positive attitude and willingness to join in with Highcliffe school life.

In the evenings, they spent time with their host families, forging friendships and participating in family life.

Without a doubt, the students of Johoku School bought a bit of magic to Highcliffe School. Furthermore, their host buddies demonstrated great maturity and responsibility. They made great efforts to ensure the Johoku boys felt at home and could return with great memories of their time at Highcliffe.

If you’re interested in hosting a student, please let Mr Bryden know. Johoku visits us every March and we’re always on the look out for host families to look after them at that time!

Also: look out for news coming out shortly about the trip to Japan!
