Christchurch Sports Awards

Students from schools across the area get together to celebrate their achievements


On the Monday 2nd July, the annual Christchurch Sports awards took place at the Grange School.

 

Every year students from primary and secondary schools are awarded trophies for their achievements in sport and leadership. The guest speaker this year was Jake Sheaf who is an International Beach Volleyball player. He also presented the awards to the students.

 

From Highcliffe 9 students were awarded for their excellence and commitment to sport in 3 different categories (bronze, silver and gold).

 

Bronze winners – Elissa, Dexter, Lauren

Silver winners – Molly, Isaac, Edward

Gold winners – Ethan, Joe, Jasmine

Bronze Awards

Elissa

Elissa talents lie in long distance running. She is currently a member of the New Forest Runners and she was awarded most improved junior runner in February of this year. She has competed in the Dorset County Championships representing Bournemouth and she has represented the town in the County athletics Championships. Elissa also competes in the Hampshire Cross-country league and has achieved 1st and 2nd place in the RNLI 2k competitions.

 

Dexter

Dexter is a very dependable student who is incredibly committed to representing the school across a full range of sports. He has a hunger to learn and improve and listen in g and acts on feedback positively. Dexter is very passionate about rugby and his enthusiasm spills over to others. He has regular high quality moments within the game as an attacker through his play making and support play. Dexter also enjoys swimming outside of school and he has represented his club in a number of local competitions.

 

Lauren

Lauren is a talented all-rounder. She represents the school in a range of sports including football, netball, rounders and gymnastics. Outside of school, Lauren's commitments lie in gymnastics and football. In football she is a member of the successful Highcliffe Hawks club. In gymnastics Lauren has been county champion and she has gained gold medals in the National preliminaries. Lauren is now preparing for the school sports tour to Greece in October 2018.

 

Silver Awards  

Molly Morris

Molly started rowing only 2 years ago. She is currently a member of the Christchurch rowing club and she trains intensely indoors and on the water.  She races in a single and over the past few years, she has completed in a number of regattas and has always achieved places in the top 3 positions. Her greatest achievement to date was getting into the Wessex regional rowing team. With this team she went to the Junior National Regatta in Nottingham where she achieved 6th place overall. Considering Molly's short rowing career this is a great achievement and we are sure there will be many more.

 

Isaac Ellis

Isaac's talents lie in swimming and he has been competing in the sport for the past 5 years. He is currently a member of the Seagulls swimming club. His greatest achievements to date include 2 bronze medals in the Regionals in 2017 and 2018 and a gold at the Welsh Nationals this year. He has recently got through to the Nationals in Sheffield and this is taking place later this year.

 

Edward Lockyer

Edward excels at rugby. He has been a member of the New Milton RFC team member since 2010 and he was on the team, which became Hampshire Country Champions in 2012 and Finalists in 2017.  He successfully trialed for Hampshire Development Player Pathway in 2016 and was selected to Join London Irish Bronze Academy. He was reselected at Under 14 and Under 15. Edward successfully trialed with Bath RFC Academy at Under 14 and was reselected for the Under 15 squad. We wish Edward well in his future successes in rugby.

 

Gold Awards

Ethan Bennett

Ethan started diving at the age of 7. Since then he has competed across the UK and Europe in a wide range of competitions representing Great Britain. Ethan competes in individual and synchronized diving. In 2017 he achieved 3 medals in synchronized diving and 4 medals in the individual at the Nationals in Sheffield. Next Year Ethan is going to the Senior Nationals, which will be his hardest competition to date. He is currently competing in Barcelona and as result; he is unable to be here to collect his award.

 

Joe Pannell

Joe has been playing squash since the age of 7. He has won 25 national ranking competitions and reached number 4 in England.  He is 3 times county champion previously beating the national champion to win.  He has been achieved first place in the South once and runner up twice. His best result was 7th place in the English Championships.  Joe is now completing a year young in U15 events. His most recent competition was the Chiltern Silver Event, which is for the top 30 players in the country.

 

Jasmine Phillips

Jasmine Phillips has been training at karate for 9 years. She trains intensely and is taking her Black belt in December 2018. She has competed at national and international level, and most recently in the Southern England European Qualifying Competition and Gold in the Team Kata, Silver in the Individual Kumite and Bronze in the Individual Kata. Jasmine is now a member of Team GB, and will be competing in the 2018 Martial Arts Games European Championships in Liechtenstein in August.
