Rotary Shoebox Appeal 2018

Every year the School joins in with the Rotary Club Shoebox Scheme, making and collecting Christmas shoeboxes for children around the world.

Well done to all our staff and students who got involved in our Christmas Shoebox Appeal again this year, we had another great year and managed to collect in 430 shoeboxes for less fortune children in Eastern Europe.

The school joins in with the Rotary Club Shoebox Scheme every year, making Christmas boxes filled with toys, stationary, toiletries and clothes. Over 6000 boxes have been made by our school over the last 12 years! This year’s response has continued the trend.

However, this year two of our Year 9 students Naomi and Jasmine have gone above and beyond collecting an amazing 34 shoeboxes for the Rotary Shoebox Appeal. The girls knew they wanted to collect as many shoeboxes as they could but after realising they didn’t have the money or the resources to do this themselves they appealed to their neighbours by penning a letter for their help.

They were overwhelmed with responses from their generous neighbours and managed to collect £95 in cash to buy supplies as well as 3 full bags of small items like toys, toiletries, stationery and clothes. Having collected all these donations, they were able to make a grand total of 34 shoeboxes to be sent away for children who are less fortunate than themselves.

Here is what Naomi and Jasmine said about colleting their shoeboxes.

“We are very fortunate when it comes to Christmas presents, so we thought we should give a little back into the world. We hate the thought of young children being unhappy at Christmas with no presents or toys to comfort them. We therefore got together to try and complete as many shoeboxes as possible; trying to make as many children happy as possible. This is a big and expensive task and we needed help. We sent out a letter to our neighbours explaining what we were trying to do  and asked if they wanted to donate some money or a few of the items on the list. We were amazed at the results. We managed to collect £95 in cash and three full bags of small items to put in the shoeboxes. After a lot of shopping and a lot of wrapping we completed 34 shoeboxes.”
